Some changes afoot in Brazilian milk & dairy: a government-proposed milk quality guidelines, called Normativa 51 has been first postponed by 6 months, then replaced by a watered-down version, Normativa 62 to be put in place from Jan 1, 2012. The intended implementation of a stricter national standard (Norm 51) was unrealistic as Embrapa feared the standard would drive approx 95% of producers out of the market. The new standard includes a phased approach for North and South and is less drastic than Normativa 51, which intended to apply quality guidelines close to Europe's.
Who said pwd Brazil milk is ready to compete with EU or NZ on both price & quality?
